Flattered figures from the local community have spoken of their pride after being recognised on the Queen’s New Year’s Honours list.
Anne Bryden, former language teacher at St. Edwards Church of England School and Sixth Form College will receive an MBE for her services to education.
Having also attended the school in London Road, Romford, Anne taught there for more than 30 years before retiring in July 2013.
She said: “Teaching there was a wonderful experience for me and it was the great staff and pupils who enabled me to achieve the honour.”
Janet Anne Brewer, training officer at SSAFA London North East was awarded a British Empire Medal, for her 21 years of service to the charity.
Starting out as a volunteer, Janet, of Brentwood, served as secretary for 13 years before moving on to her current role.
Having only heard the news on New Year’s Eve, she admits it came as a surprise.
“It took the wind out of my sails,” said the 58-year-old,
“I am certainly looking forward to it.”
Eve Farraud, 42, from Collier Row was awarded the British Empire Medal for services to the construction industry.
Starting out at the Construction Industry Council (CIC) as a temp for one week, she has now been on the Council’s staff for sixteen years.
Eve said: “I am absolutely delighted to receive this fantastic honour.
“I hope that my acceptance of this award will be a testament to the many wonderful colleagues I have worked with.”
Ian Yeoman, band director at Royal British Legion Band & Corps of Drums Romford was awarded a British Empire Medal for services to music and youth development.
