A campaign to get kids exercising during the summer holidays has been launched with help from two familiar faces.

Mickey and Minnie Mouse dropped by the Coopers’ Company and Coborn School in St Mary’s Lane, Upminster, today to launch the 10 Minute Shakeup, a collaboration between Disney and Change4Life.

The aim is for children up and down the country to bank an extra 100,000,000 minutes of physical activity during the summer months.

Ten-minute bursts of exercise will help them reach the recommended 60 minutes or more of physical activity they need each day. Currently only one in five children aged five to 10 meet the target.

Jane Ellison MP, Parliamentary under secretary of state for public health, attended the launch.

She said: “We are seeing some encouraging signs of levelling off of obesity.

“By 2020, we want to see a sustained downward trend in the level of excess weight in children, by encouraging people to eat healthily and be more active. Change4life and this 10 Minute Shake Up campaign helps towards that ambition.”
