The proud owner of the “poshest palate in Romford” was discovered during a special competition in the town centre this weekend.

On Saturday, the Mercury Mall launched its quest to find Havering’s top-class tastebuds by offering shoppers a veritable smorgasbord of fine foods.

Pasta and pizza from Caffe Della Terra, cake from Godfrey’s Bakery and McDonald’s smoothies were just some of the delectable items up for grabs at the centre between 11am and 4pm.

An estimated 280 shoppers took part before being asked a simple questionnaire about the foods they had tasted.

At the end of the day. Tammy Sobers was crowned “poshest palate in Romford” by the judges.

Spencer Hawken, Mercury Mall centre manager, said: ““Many of our outlets keep their food offer interesting by introducing new foods and recipes.

“The Taste Test Challenge was a great way for shoppers to discover these new delights while, at the same time, pit their palates in a fun competition.”
