Hornchurch cruised to a tenth straight win and manager Jim McFarlane couldn’t be more pleased with their start to the season.

A much-changed side eased their way to a 5-1 victory against local rivals Aveley to progress into the next round of the Velocity Trophy at Bridge Avenue on Tuesday evening.

McFarlane admits it was pleasing to keep the run going and more importantly for his squad members to prove their worth with Martin Tuohy and new signing Matthias Fanimo scoring in the win.

“Both sides had major changes from Saturday,” he said.

“We had key players missing, but to be fair we were worthy winners and it was a really good game.

“Not very often I’ll say I enjoy watching football matches, but I enjoyed that one and I enjoyed the result even more.”

The manager handed debuts to Mohamed Kamara and Matthias Fanimo in the match with the later getting on the score sheet.

He also gave starts to club legend Martin Tuohy as well as Taj Hussain and Sean Roberts who haven’t featured much this season.

“It’s gave me an even bigger headache, everyone that come in and hadn’t been playing, including Mohamed Kamara who has been on trial played very well.

“It’s a nice headache to have though.”

Kamara has extended his stay with the Urchins after being on trial at the club and McFarlane believes he’ll be a good addition.

“He was a bit nervous for the first five to ten minutes, but once he settled down he looked good.

“He’s a footballing centre half in the respect that he likes to play out from the back and he made a couple mistakes in the first ten minutes, but after that he looked very accomplished and will be a good addition to the squad.”

The boss also sang the praises of West Ham United youngster Matthias Fanimo who made his first start for the club.

“He’s only been with us two weeks, he hasn’t really had an opportunity yet, but he showed loads of quality and he was once dubbed the fastest footballer in the world.

“You can see why he has blistering pace, but he also has a very good football brain.”

Long-serving centre-back Paul Goodacre left the club seeking more first-team opportunities this week.
