Romford back in league action

Paul Martin wants his Romford players to show the same attitude and hunger on display at Hornchurch in midweek when they host Ryman One North rivals Wingate tomorrow.

Boro beat their neighbours 3-0 in a friendly after a weather-enforced three-week break from action.

And Martin is hoping they can build on their derby success as they go in search of more league points.

He said: “It was nice of Hornchurch to give us the opportunity to play them in a friendly and I think we are establishing ourselves as a good footballing side.

“Now we’ve got to take that attitude and hunger into the Wingate game.

“I don’t want teams to beat us twice this season and we lost 1-0 at their place, although it was one of our better performances of the season.

“You can’t knock the ball around as much at our place as you can at theirs.”

Boro remain firmly in the hunt for a play-off place, with only two league defeats suffered to date.

They visit Heybridge on Tuesday and Martin believes the next month or so could be crucial for his side’s hopes.

He added: “Heybridge are not an easy team to play at their place, even though their form guide is not that good at the moment.

“Every team is due a win at some time, but if we can get through the next 10 games, down to the last 15 of the season, with half the points we want, I can’t see why we can’t get into the play-offs.”
