It could have been a wet side story, but the rain held off long enough for talented youngsters from Marshalls Park School to perform a musical classic with a twist.
Audiences watched the Jets and Sharks battle it out in Somewhere – a take on West Side Story, but with characters, scenes and songs moved from 1950s America to a modern setting - last Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (June 27-29).
A spokesman for the school said: “Students, aged 11-15, bravely staged the show as an open air production set in the ‘urban atmosphere’ of the school playground. “However, despite some damp rehearsals and the terrible forecasts leading up to the performances, the audiences managed to enjoy three entirely rain-free nights!”
Mayor of Havering Cllr Lynden Thorpe and consort David Thorpe, were guests of honour at the Pettits Lane school on Friday.
