Rivals look to keep momentum

Hornchurch boss Jimmy McFarlane and Paul Martin, of Romford, want more from their sides tonight.

Both clubs picked up important points in their respective promotion bids at the weekend.

And the two managers want to see momentum maintained as they hit the road this evening.

Urchins visit Premier Division rivals Hendon, while Boro travel to Tilbury.

McFarlane said: “Hendon have been a bit of a bogey side since we’ve been at Hornchurch. We always had a great record against them when we were at Thurrock.

“I’m hoping Saturday’s performance gives us a good platform, but Hendon are a funny side. You raise your eyebrows at them every week. They go and get beaten by teams you wouldn’t expect them to lose to, then go and beat teams like Lowestoft.

“They’re a bit inconsistent, like us.”

Kieron St Aimie’s injury-time penalty earned Urchins a draw with leaders Sutton at the weekend, after his late goal had clinched a win over Hastings last Tuesday.

McFarlane added: “We’ve not been prolific with our scoring this season and I expect him to bang the door down this week!”

Martin said: “This is one of the tightest divisions in a long time and we’ve got some hard games coming up.

“We’ve just got to keep doing it. We’ve taken seven points out of a possible nine and only need two more to reach last season’s total.

“If we get into the play-offs it’s a bonus and fair play to the boys, but I don’t want us to get carried away.”
