Rivals hoping to get games on

Hornchurch boss Jimmy McFarlane and Romford’s Paul Martin are desperately hoping to see some action tomorrow night.

Both were left frustrated after seeing home fixtures postponed due to waterlogged pitches at the weekend.

But they are hoping to send their teams out for Ryman League duty in midweek.

Martin saw Boro’s home clash with Waltham Abbey fall victim to the elements and said: “It would’ve been nice to get another game out of the way. You’d rather play and get the fixtures in, or you’re falling behind more.

“The two games that were played, the results went in our favour, but not if we don’t go out and get a result.”

Boro are due to visit Enfield Town tomorrow, after they earned a point from a 2-2 draw at Wingate on Saturday.

Martin added: “We will go out to try and get a result and it will be a massive result if we can get it.

“It will set us up for a push for the play-offs, but it’s not until the last 8-10 games when we will really know.”

Urchins had a group of loyal supporters working on their Bridge Avenue pitch in a bid to get their Premier Divisoin clash with Hastings on.

But their efforts proved in vain as it failed an inspection, leaving McFarlane and his players to hold a training session in a nearby park instead, ahead of their clash with Harrow tomorrow.

He said: “We had a dozen people on the pitch when the ref arrived and it was unplayable as it was. It was covered in water.

“He didn’t think we would clear it and then it hammered down. We were fighting a lost cause really.

“It’s bad enough losing one game [Hornchurch’s clash with Aveley fell victim to a floodlight failure last Tuesday], but to lose two on the trot and both at home as well....

“Hopefully it doesn’t go on too long. There’s a bit of rain forecast for tomorrow, but as long as it stops long enough for you to clear the pitch, we should be alright.”

McFarlane was left further frustrated when a potential signing backed out of a move to the club.

He added: “We agreed a deal, but then he didn’t return any calls or texts and I’ve read that he’s gone somewhere else.

“What goes around comes around I suppose, but I’ve spent the last four weeks on the phone and people say there’s no money in football, but it’s amazing some of the quotes I’ve been getting for what some are being paid.”
