A man was shot dead by police in Collier Row this morning.
Police were called at around 4am today (Monday, April 9) by a man making threats and claiming that he had a gun at a house in Collier Row.
Firearms officers attended the scene and were told that the man had left the address armed with a gun.
At around 4.45am a man - believed to be in his 40s - was shot by police in the Collier Row Road and Lodge Lane area.
He was pronounced dead at the scene at 5.17am.
Road closures remain in place around the scene.
A Met Police spokesman said: “The Directorate of Professional Standards has been informed. A mandatory referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.”
A spokesman from the IOPC (Independent Office for Police Conduct) told the Recorder: “We are investigating a fatal police shooting in Romford this morning.
“We were notified of the incident in Collier Row Road, Romford by the MPS earlier this morning.
“We have deployed investigators to the scene and to police post-incident procedure to begin enquiries.”
