A man who was rescued from a burning bungalow by firefighters on Friday has died in hospital, the London Fire Brigade has confirmed.

An LFB spokesman confirmed four fire engines and 21 firefighters were called to a fire at a bungalow in Fen Lane, Upminster at around 9.04am, where officers in special breathing apparatus rescued a man from the burning property.

The man was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to hospital by London’s air ambulance.

This morning, it has been confirmed he later died of his injuries.

Firefighters from Romford and Dagenham fire stations – supported by members of the Essex Fire and Rescue Service – had brought the fire under control by 10.13am.

The cause of the fire is now under investigation.
