A conman tricked his way into a pensioner’s home by offering to do some gardening.

The 75-year-old woman was targeted on Sunday July 15 in Hilldene Avenue, Harold Hill at 7.10pm.

Once inside, the suspect began searching upstairs.

He made off when the woman threatened to call the police.

Nothing was stolen.

The suspect is described as a white male aged between 18 and 22.

The police are warning people to be on their guard against bogus callers.

A police spokesman said: “If you are not convinced of the identity of the caller, don’t let them in.

“Ask the caller to come back later and arrange for a friend, relative or neighbour to be present on their return or ask the caller to contact this person.”

Anyone with information should call the police 101.
