A man is in a critical condition after a serious crash in North Street, Romford, last night.
Police were called to the road, at the junction with St. Edwards Way, at 10pm.
Ambulance crews also attended the scene and found a man in his 30s in “cardiac arrest” and suffering from “serious injuries” after his car collided with the 86 bus.
A doctor stayed by his side in the ambulance as he was taken to the Royal London Hospital, in Whitechapel, where he remains in critical condition.
Road closures were put in place last night, and buses were diverted as a result.
No arrests have been made. Enquiries are ongoing.
Luke Hudson, a 19-year-old enforcement officer from Essex Road, Romford, saw the crash from the back of the 103 bus.
He said: “I was coming round the roundabout on a bus and the guy was coming round the roundabout too.
“The car has come round the roundabout, I heard the screech of tyres, and he’s gone over the island and into the bus.
“To be honest I think I was quite lucky – if I’d come round the roundabout five seconds later it’d have been my bus.”
