A man was arrested on suspicion of going equipped to steal thanks to a new Neighbourhood Watch.

Officers from Romford Safer Neighbourhood team were alerted to the man acting suspiciously by members of the watch in Carlton Road, Romford, on October 3.

Acting Sgt Martin Noon said: “We have been working with local residents to raise awareness of simple crime prevention measures and I am certain that the emergency call was a result of this.” initiative.”

The NHW was recently set up in the area after requests from residents.

Sergeant Noon said: “We are urging people to think about the dark nights that are approaching and the importance of using timer switches or other devices to give the impression that their house is occupied”.
