An 87-year-old man was taken to hospital and a 15-year-old boy was treated for smoke inhalation after a suspected arson attack on a Hornchurch flat over the weekend.
Twenty firefighters and four fire engines were called to the blaze, which started outside an eighth-floor flat on Haynes Park Court, Slewins Close, at about 7pm on Saturday July 28. The London Ambulance Service was called at 7.15pm and sent one crew to the scene, where they treated an 87-year-old man for a head injury and smoke inhalation and took him to Queen’s Hospital, Romford. The boy was treated by firefighters.
The incident was over by 7.50pm.
The Harold Hill fire crew was first on the scene, and Dagenham and Romford crews also attended. Police are investigating the cause of the fire.
