A man has been arrested after running from and assaulting police officers who pulled over a car in a busy residential road last night.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman confirmed officers from Roads and Transport Policing Command stopped a car in Collier Row Lane, Collier Row, at 8.50pm because they believed that car to be stolen.

Two occupants of the car then tried to run from the car, and one, a 20-year-old man, was caught and arrested on suspicion of allowing himself to be carried in a stolen vehicle.

He will also be charged with assaulting a police officer and remains in custody.

Enquiries continue as officers attempt to trace any other persons involved.
