Midnight is the deadline for party leaders to finish their “horse-trading” and propose who they wish to control the council.
By tomorrow morning it is expected that there will a clearer picture of who will lead the administration but this could still change at the June 11 council meeting.
Havering’s newly selected Conservative leader Cllr Roger Ramsey said that discussions are ongoing and at this stage it looks like they will either team up with the Residents’ Association in a coalition or run the council as a minority.
He said: “There’s a lot of good will around. We are having convivial talks with people and there’s no great ill feeling between the groups.
“I have previously been in a joint administration and know how it can work but I think there are a lot of people who don’t know what they are letting themselves in for - that’s the problem.”
