Supporters of a social club which is facing closure protested outside last week’s cabinet meeting.

Nalgo Social Club, in North Street, Hornchurch, has been run by supporters for the past 25 years. But they have until April to leave after the council served them a notice.

On Wednesday, about 50 people protested outside the town hall. Mike Shead, from the Save the Nalgo campaign, said: “We are demonstrating against the council’s intention to close our social club.

“It is a community resource for residents, staff and retired staff and we don’t want it to go.”
