Tonight’s annual meeting of the council was a short but fruitful affair, which saw a new mayor, council leader and cabinet announced.

As expected, Tory Cllr Linda Trew was appointed as mayor, with Cllr Barbara Matthews of the Residents’ Association made her deputy.

Cllr Roger Ramsey is the new leader of the council, with fellow Conservative, Cllr Damian White serving as deputy.

Cllr Ramsey defeated Independent Residents’ Group leader, Cllr Jeff Tucker by 44 votes to 5 to become leader, and said it was an “honour and a privilege.”

The cabinet was also announced during the one-hour meeting, though portfolios have not yet been designated. Cllrs Meg Davis, Wendy Brice-Thompson, Melvin Wallace, Robert Benham, Osman Dervish and Damian White will all take the roles.
