Residents of council-run properties will have the chance to discuss changes to housing and benefits at a dedicated day of workshops and one-to-one advice sessions next week.

The annual residents’ conference will take place on Wednesday 18 February at the Salvation Army in High Street, Romford from 10am and includes a free lunch, creche and children’s activities.

Residents with questions about housing and benefits will be able to meet Havering council officers for advice surgeries and a series of 45 minute workshops including a session on the council’s letting and housing services (at 12pm and 3pm) and “Computer says YES!” (10am and 1pm) an information session about accessing benefits information and Council services online.

There will also be “Benefits are changing” sessions at 11am and 2pm, which aims to explain upcoming changes such as Universal Credit.

Councillor Damian White, Cabinet Member for Housing and Deputy Leader of Havering Council said: “This event is the perfect opportunity for those looking for one-to-one advice and support to find out more about the issues that matter to them.”

The Council is able to provide transport to and from the venue for those unable to travel independently.
