A grief-stricken Havering family are crowdfunding to fly their mum’s body home after she died while on holiday in Turkey.

Heather Pyke, a 62-year-old carer from Bromley-by-Bow was taken ill two days into a family holiday with two daughters, a niece and a granddaughter, in Marmaris.

Danielle Pyke, 26, Heather’s youngest, explained: “She didn’t feel well enough to come with us on a boat trip.

“But we got back to the hotel to find her unconscious in her room. A doctor had to resuscitate her and she was rushed to hospital and put on life support.”

Her nephew Dean Harding, 40, from Kings Park, in Harold Wood, set up a crowdfunding page to fly her home while she was on life support.

But she died on Tuesday night following a second heart attack.

Her daughter Victoria, who lived with Heather was at her bedside.

The crowdfund cash is still needed to pay for £14,000 medical bills and a further £20,000 to get her home for the funeral.

“We’re all still in shock,” Dean told the Recorder.

“Heather had been in coma all the time and never regained consciousness while on life-support.”

Heather had been in a coma since July 22 when she collapsed in her hotel room.

The family, including Dean’s mother and Heather’s sister, Marie Harding, from Hornchurch, have managed to raise £7,500 from their crowdfunding so far.

The Foreign Office has been contacted by Poplar and Limehouse MP Jim Fitzpatrick to try and get her back home.

He said: “I have asked them what is being done for the family to bring Heather home. It’s distressing for any family who suffer ill health abroad — but shows how important it is to make sure you have adequate travel insurance before going abroad.”

Tragedy has struck the family before. Heather’s brother Keith Sinclair, 60, was stabbed to death in his flat in Bow Common in May.

Her husband Eddie died leaving her to raise four daughters on her own.

Keith is buried at Upminster Crematorium, in Corbets Tey, Upminster, which is where the family wish to lay Heather to rest.
