Lightning damages two houses in Rainham

A couple returned home after they were called by a firefighter telling them that their kitchen was filled with smoke after they left their dishwasher on.

Two houses were struck by lightning this afternoon as stormclouds gathered in the area.

Firefighters from Hornchurch were called to addresses in Princes Park, Rainham at 2.50pm.

One person was at home in one of the properties at the time but fortunately nobody was hurt.

However, the roofs and loft spaces of both properties have been damaged.
