The application would see 11 houses, seven flats and seven maisonettes built in Edenhall Road, Harold Hill, where The Pompadour pub currently sits.

It is believed members of staff did not know about the application until Sunday, following letters being sent out to neighbouring residents who drink in the pub.

Comments from users on Streetlife about the news have been mixed.

MsPitstop said: “I’ve had a look at the plans and it doesn’t look bad. I live opposite the pompadours and have only been in there once. That was enough for me.”

Another user, James H, said: “Problem is we haven’t got any nice pubs in Harold hill. So surely it makes sense to referb the pub instead of building more bloody houses.”

Susan Ca added: “Oh blimey.... am dissappointed to hear about EVEN MORE houses been built up here in Harold Hill! I live round the corner to the Pompadours and it would have been nice if it was turned into a Wetherspoons or something.

Havering will make a decision on the plans by May 5.
