A JUNKIE who stabbed a store detective with a hypodermic needle leaving the victim at risk of HIV infection was jailed for 21 months on Monday.

Daniel Fraser, 26, punctured his victim's thumb and arm after being stopped for shoplifting at ASDA, Romford, last January 29.

Snaresbrook Crown Court heard the detective, a married dad in his 20s, must endure an agonising six-month wait for test results.

Fraser, who admitted two further charges of shoplifting, had a string of convictions for violence and heroin possession. Prosecutor Matthew Dalton said the victim was monitoring the store's CCTV cameras when he spotted Fraser acting suspiciously in the meat aisle.

After watching Fraser help himself to food and leave the supermarket without paying, he confronted him outside the store.

Staff attempted to wrestle Fraser to the ground, and the victim received two puncture wounds.

Fraser admitted causing actual bodily harm. He also admitted shoplifting meat worth £48 from Somerfield, St Mary's Lane, Upminster, on June 27 last year, and a £129 electric toothbrush from Boots, Hornchurch, on April 27.

The judge said no punishment could compensate for the ongoing "worry and stress" of the victim.

Fraser, of Derby Avenue, Upminster, admitted causing actual bodily harm and three counts of theft.
