Romford unbeaten in five after draw

Hornchurch warmed up for tonight’s Ryman Premier Division derby at Aveley with a 6-0 thrashing of Tooting at the weekend.

Martin Tuohy’s hat-trick fired Urchins to the convincing Bridge Avenue success, opening his account after only two minutes from Joe Anderson’s cross.

Jon Hunt doubled their lead direct from a corner, before Tuohy latched on to an Elliot Styles pass to round visiting keeper Simon Lehkyj and slot home.

Hornchurch moved 4-0 up early in the second half when Hunt played a quick free-kick to Lewis Smith, who placed his shot past Lehkyj.

And two more goals in the closing minutes allowed Urchins to make it a half-dozen, with Tuohy completing his treble in the 84th minute before substitute Michael Spencer placed his shot into the net in injury time.

A second successive victory lifted Jimmy McFarlane’s men to eighth place ahead of tonight’s clash at Aveley.

And they make the short trip to Mill Field looking for another three-point haul, after Aveley slumped to a 4-1 defeat at Lewes on Saturday.

Romford, meanwhile, extended their unbeaten run to five games with a 2-2 draw against Ryman One North rivals Cheshunt.

Boro, buoyed by their FA Cup success against Royston, took a deserved lead when Jack Barry headed in from Chuck Duru’s cross.

But the home side were pegged back before the hour when Josh Hutchinson netted from the penalty spot.

Paul Kavanagh put Paul Martin’s men back in front with a superb free-kick, but Cheshunt fought back for a second time through Hutchinson to earn a share of the spoils.

Boro will look to maintain their unbeaten run when they visit Waltham Abbey tomorrow (Tuesday).
