A walk aiming to raise money for a charity that helps troops will end its final leg in Brentwood when the event takes place next month.

The walk, called All The 4s, named after the four soldiers, the four families, the four fallen, ‘4 ever’, will happen between August 16 and 25 in aid of The Royal Anglian Regiment Benevolent Charity. The Royal Anglian Regiment serves Essex County as well nine others.

The last section of the walk will take place in Brentwood on August 25 and the Mayor of Brentwood, Councillor Ann Coe, is expected to join the final mile of the day, dubbed the ‘Golden Mile’ as the walkers make their way to the town hall. Members of the public are able to join the walk at the start of any leg and can find more information at www.allthe4s.co.uk.

Organiser Christine Bonner, who lives in Lincolnshire, is the mother of Corporal Darren Bonner who was killed in Afghanistan in 2007 whilst serving with the 1st Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment.

Mrs Bonner said: “In May 2007 my eldest child and only son, Cpl Darren Bonner, was killed in a land mine explosion in Southern Afghanistan. My whole world fell apart and my life was changed forever.

“It doesn’t seem like five years ago that we lost our Darren, but it is so important to keep his and his comrades memories alive and this is what the walk does for us.

“Sadly nothing can ever bring my boy back, but I have to do something positive in the light of this absolutely horrific tragedy. It’s my time to ‘Walk with my Darren.’”

Since its inception five years ago, All The 4s has raised about 180,000 for The Royal Anglian Regiment Benevolent Charity. Soldiers in Essex have benefitted from the donations which have helped them out with financial needs and buying key items such as wheelchairs for those who are ill or injured.
