An 81-year-old woman from Emerson Park died after a collision involving three vehicles on Friday morning (June 15th), police have confirmed.

Jean Freeborn, who died at the Royal London Hospital on Friday evening, was the passenger in a blue/green Peugeot 206 that collided with a black Nissan Qashqai 4x4 at about 11am in Sylvan Avenue, Emerson Park.

The Nissan was being driven by a 33-year-old woman, who was treated for minor injuries at the Queen’s Hospital, Romford, along with her one-year-old son. She was later arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and taken to Romford police station. She was released on police bail and will return tomorrow (Tuesday).

The 83-year-old man driving the Peugeot was taken to the Royal London with minor head injuries and discharged after treatment.

Police said the Nissan was travelling from the direction of Wingletye Lane towards Ardleigh Green Road when the crash took place. The Peugeot then hit a tree, and the Nissan also collided with a parked Hyundai.

Officers at Chadwell Heath Road Death Investigation Unit are appealing for any witnesses to come forward. In particular, they would like to speak to two men who are believed to have been travelling in a van and who came to help.
