Loan star believes Burnett’s side should be higher up the table

Alex Jakubiak is looking for Dagenham & Redbridge to make it three wins on the spin tomorrow when they host Tranmere Rivals at Victoria Road.

The Watford loanee helped Wayne Burnett’s side pick up three points in their last outing at Bury on November 29.

That was Daggers second successive victory, after a 4-2 win against Carlisle United on home soil, and they are aiming to keep up that form this weekend.

“We are on quite a good bit of form and the spirits are high,” Jakubiak said.

“Obviously we would have liked to have a game last weekend to keep the momentum up even more.

“But we can take that momentum into Saturday’s game against Tranmere and hopefully get the win at home.”

If Daggers can pick up a home win it will make the gap between themselves and the relegation zone nine points.

Jakubiak believes the Victoria Road club are much better than their 21st league position suggests, having played against Burnett’s side earlier in the campaign for Oxford United.

He added: “When Oxford played against them earlier in the season I thought Dagenham were a good side.

“I thought we, well I say we because I was at Oxford, done well and I thought Dagenham were a good opponent.

“Before I came here I saw where they were in the league and I was quite shocked.

“Even now I am quite surprised by where they are, but it is only a matter of time before other teams slip up and we start climbing the table.”

The 18-year-old will be hoping to start against the Merseyside outfit tomorrow, after scoring on his Daggers debut at Gigg Lane.

Jakubiak admits his preferred position is as the main centre forward, but is adept at playing anywhere across the forward line.

“My preferred position is an actual number 9 as you would call it,” he said.

“I can play either side on the left or right wing or even in the pocket behind the striker so I am quite versatile in that way.”
