Members of an all-women gym are donating their discarded lingerie to support the fight against breast cancer.

Gymophobis, in North Street, Hornchurch, has received more than 500 donations to its “bra bank” in the last three months in an effort to raise money for Breast Cancer Research.

Franchise owner Debbie Thomas said: “We’ve had a fantastic response. Everybody you talk to knows somebody who’s going through breast cancer and we have got a ready-made market to collect bras being a ladies’ gym.”

The bras will be weighed with the research charity receiving money per kilogram. The garments themselves will then be sent to third world countries to be recycled.

Although the gym has received a whopping donation so far, Debbie is encouraging all members and non-members to find their discarded items and bring them along to raise more.

She said: “Let’s make all the ladies in Havering aware of what we are doing and encourage them to pop in and donate any unwanted bras for this excellent cause.”
