Ivy Garcia celebrated her 100th birthday on Friday, June 29 at Moreland House care home in Manor Avenue.

Carol Massey, Ivy’s niece told the Recorder: “It was a lovely day. I want to say a big thank you to the [Moreland House] for all the hard work they put in to make the day extra special.

“My Aunt paid for the food and entertainment and organised a raffle so that everybody could have a lovely day, it was really important to her that everyone at the home had a good time.

“[Ivy] used to run a college for shorthand and typing and one of her students was able to come to the party.”

Carol added that it made Ivy’s day that the mayor of Havering, Councillor Dilip Patel came for the festivities.

On Sunday, July 1 the family gathered for another celebration at the Holiday Inn in Brentwood.

“I want to say another thank you to the Holiday Inn as they kindly let us have the room for nothing,” said Carol.

“The staff said it was a privilege to host her 100th birthday celebration.”
