A singer could become part of the first boyband to win this year’s X Factor.

Jake Kirby is one of two artists who have been taken on by management company Torchwood Limited to form a band hoping for success in the new series of the music show.

Jake, of Hornchurch said: “I think we have a really good chance, all we have to do is to make sure that we perform well.

“But I am quietly confident that we can do it.”

As part of changes to this year’s X Factor, acts who already have managers or have been put together by a music company can compete in the show.

Jake, 19 and his friend, Tommy Miller from Dagenham competed against 1,200 people nationwide to earn a place in the band.

The pair are set to be trained by the management company, who have also worked with some of the biggest names in pop and they even have a team of writers who have written material for the band.

Jake said: “Things seem really promising.

“I am not going into X Factor to leave in the first week, I want to go on to win and I really think I can with the management team by our sides.”

The former Abbs Cross student said that he “always enjoyed singing” but never realised that he had a good voice until he recorded himself singing on his friend’s phone.

Since then, Jake has set up a record studio at his home where he has been writing his own music with Tommy.

Jake said: “I always knew I could sing but it was only when I heard the recording that I started to take things seriously.

“This is the first time that I have taken my singing seriously and I am actually trying to pursue it.”

The music company is also looking for three other singers from Havering or East London to join Jake and Tommy in the boyband.
