Paralympic swimmer Amy Marren presented an award live on national TV.
The 14-year-old Hall Mead pupil, of Hornchurch, was one of three youngsters chosen to hand “Landmark Award” titles to key Olympic figures at Wednesday’s National Television Awards.
The trio took the stage at the O2 along with 57 other rising sports stars.
Amy swam her way to fourth place in the S9 400m freestyle and fifth in the S9 100m backstroke at this year’s Paralympic Games and has been tipped as one to watch in 2016.
Two of the award recipients – multiple Paralympic gold medallist David Weir MBE and Lord Seb Coe, chair of the London Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games – she’d met before.
But British Olympic cycling legend Chris Hoy – the most decorated Olympic cyclist of all time – was a new one on her.
“He’s got a lot to his name,” she told the Recorder in between rehearsals. “It’s a huge honour to be able to give an award to these sorts of people.”
