Mitchell Huth, 6 from Wingletye Lane, Hornchurch who suffers from neuroblastoma will be one of just six children in the UK to take part in the ground breaking antibody treatment.

Mitchell’s mum Kristel Huth said: “I feel that he has gone through the worse of the treatment but this is another new stage and hopefully the antibodies treatment will work.”

The treatment is due to start on Monday July 25 and will see Mitchell spending a week in hospital every month at Great Ormond Street and then three weeks at home continuing the treatment.

The treatment has already been tried in Germany and other parts of Europe but has only been used on very few occasions in this country.

The Lennox Children’s Cancer Fund are set to launch an appeal for Mitchell to raise money for treatment abroad in case the antibodies does not work.

Kristel said: “Its quite worrying because we do not know anything much about the treatment and are not sure how he is going to respond to it because when they are on the course of drugs every child responds differently.

“if this treatment doesn’t work he will we might have to look at an alternative which will be getting treatment abroad.”

Mitchell was diagnosed with neuroblastoma in October last year after undergoing a number of tests at Queen’s Hospital.

His treatment included chemotherapy every ten days, a Hickman line through his jugular, a bone marrow operation and having tissue removed from a tumour in his neck.

Kristel said: “He has had to grow up a lot and he is still trying to get his head through everything that has happened throughout the year.

“He still has times when he is very upset but even though he has been sick he never complains and gets on with it, he would really put a lot of people to shame.”

Friends and family of Mitchell have rallied around to support the family and even his friends from Scargill Junior School, where he attends have helped.

Funds were also raised from a charity fun run in Central Park Dagenham in October, and other events were organised by Brittons School and Sanders Drapers School.

Kristel said: “I just want to say thank you to everyone that has raised money for Mitchell and supported the family.

“Their help has really gone a long way and there are people who we don’t even know that have helped us but we still appreciate everything that they have done.”
