Goals galore for Boro

Hornchurch maintained their fine form in the Ryman Premier Division with a come-from-behind win at rivals Concord.

But victory came at a cost as Rickie Hayles and Elliot Styles were forced off with injury and Martin Tuohy limped through most of the second half in a 2-1 success.

Concord, with only one league win to their name so far this season, had beaten Urchins 3-1 in the FA Cup at Bridge Avenue and took the lead six minutes before the break.

Joe Woolley saved Steve King’s header at a corner, but was then adjudged to have brought the former Hornchurch and Romford man down in the ensuing scramble and Tony Stokes hammered home the spot-kick.

Jimmy McFarlane’s men drew level with 14 minutes remaining when Frankie Curley ran on to a Lewis Smith header to force the ball home.

And, after Jon Hunt had become the fifth Hornchurch player to have his name taken by referee Leaf, Urchins grabbed a winner when Lewis Smith ran on to Tuohy’s pass and drove his shot inside the far post.

Romford had to settle for a Ryman Division One North point after an exciting 4-4 draw at Waltham Forest.

Jack Barry fired Boro in front in the opening minutes and Nick Reynolds threaded a pass through for Kurt Smith to make it 2-0 in the 14th minute.

Manu Dagher hit back for Forest before the half-hour mark, but Boro moved 3-1 up after the restart when Smith found Joe Oates and his cross was headed home by Reynolds.

Josh Bonnett replied from the penalty spot and a quickfire brace from Hammond put Forest 4-3 up after 74 minutes.

Boro got back on terms almost immediately as Abs Seymour crossed for Reynolds to claim his second goal of the game.

But the visitors wasted the chance of a winner when Smith was brought down in the box, but Paul Kavanagh’s penalty was saved by Aaron Omand.
