Opening the door to a St Francis Hospice ambassador proved a good move for one Hornchurch resident.

Nine months after signing up for the weekly draw Mike Villiers scooped the 1,000 first prize in the weekly draw.

“The hospice needs money so I thought I’d help. I’m usually only lucky when playing golf,” said Mike.

The Havering-atte-Bower hospice launched its weekly lottery with the aim of raising 1m for patient care in the first four years.

As an independent charity which employs more than 150 nurses, doctors and specialist care staff the funds the lottery raises are vital to continue providing specialist care, free of charge, to local people affected by a life-limiting illness.

To join the hospice lottery visit www.sfh.org.uk or call 01708 771 433. Players can pick up to 20 numbers a week and can pay by direct debit.
