Firefighters were called out to a house fire in Hornchurch that started when a tumble drier caught light.
London Fire Brigade was alerted at about 3pm on Tuesday (October 23) and sent out one Hornchurch crew and two Dagenham crews to the address in Lyndhurst Drive. The kitchen was about 10 per cent damaged by the fire.
A Hornchurch firefighter said the occupant of the house – a woman aged about 50 – had been alerted to the fire when she heard a “pop”, and had not had a working smoke alarm installed.
The brigade spent about an hour putting out the blaze.
