A devoted dad who pulled out all the stops to keep his daughter smiling through chemotherapy is in the running to scoop a national award honouring the country’s top blokes.

Kevin Stevens, of Swanbourne Drive, Hornchurch, is up against nine other men, who have been recognised for supporting their families, in the Mega Bloke 2013 competition.

The 31-year-old was nominated by his wife, Holly, who describes him as an “incredible” dad to their two daughters.

When eldest girl, Joni-Mai, lost her hair during chemotherapy Kevin shaved off his hair and walked around London wearing face paint.

He also lets youngest, Daisy, paint his nails and put hair clips in his hair to raise a smile.

Holly said: “He is always making sure I’m strong enough to face the world in the toughest times and keeps me laughing throughout.”

The competition is run by Mega Bloks, creators of the original pre-school building blocks.

Peter Fuller, marketing manager, said: “We’ve received an incredible number of inspiring and touching stories about the incredible mega blokes around the country. Kevin is a truly inspirational dad who always puts his children and wife first.

“This selfless dedication has kept them smiling through really difficult times, and for that reason, he just had to be on the shortlist.”

The winner is announced on December 11 and scoops a family two-night hotel stay, and two-day access to Drayton Manor theme park in Staffordshire.
