Hornchurch Country Park, the former site of Hornchurch Airfield, will welcome history fans and cyclists alike on Saturday September 15 to mark Battle of Britain Day.

Attractions at “Pedalling into the Past” include a flypast at 3pm by the Battle of Britain Memorial Flights Lancaster bomber, and an appearance by the RAF Hornchurch and Battle of Britain Roadshow mobile exhibition – plus BMX stunts and a chance to try out different bikes on the track running through the park, which is off Suttons Lane.

There will also be RAF veterans meeting the public and signing books. The event is free and lasts from midday until 5pm.

This year is the 50th anniversary of the aerodrome’s closure.
