The Chimichanga Mexican restaurant in Hornchurch is one of 94 eateries being closed by the Prezzo Group over the next few months, it has been revealed.

Hundreds of jobs are to be axed after the restaurant chain agreed a restructuring plan that will see 94 sites across the UK close.

Chimichanga in Station Lane, Hornchurch, has been confirmed as one of the restaurants that will be shutting up shop, as will the company’s Prezzo restaurant in Brentwood and the South Woodford Chimichanga.

The Prezzo in Corbets Tey Road, Upminster, has avoided the axe.

Around 500 jobs are understood to be in the firing line as the company reduces its number of sites from 300 to 206, although many staff will be redeployed at other restaurants.

The 94 restaurants identified for closure are likely to shut in April and May, Prezzo said, and staff will be made aware of the exact dates as soon as they have been confirmed.
