McFarlane: We deserved more

Hornchurch boss Jimmy McFarlane is still trying to work out how his side failed to pick up a point from their Bank Holiday weekend outings.

Urchins were beaten 2-0 at home by Horsham on Saturday, then went down 2-1 at Lowestoft on Monday after conceding a last-gasp goal to the Trawlerboys.

But McFarlane said: “If you only get three points out of 12 playing badly, you think you’ve got what you deserve.

“But we certainly haven’t deserved three losses.

“We did enough against Canvey last week and Horsham at the weekend to win those games. We hit the woodwork eight times!

“And we should’ve got a point, minimum, at Lowestoft. But there are lots of positives. We’re playing well.”

Trinidad & Tobago international goalkeeper Kelvin Jack made his debut at Lowestoft in place of Darren Behcet, who was forced off early against Horsham.

And there was also a first start for Joe Anderson, who set up Aaron Gayle’s goal.

But McFarlane will be hoping his men can get the reward their performances have deserved when they visit Met Police on Saturday.
