Urchins manager previews tonight’s League Cup tie at Billericay Town, and reviews Saturday’s goalless draw with Bognor Regis Town.

Hornchurch boss Jimmy McFarlane still expects it to be a typical derby battle despite making changes for tonight’s third round League Cup tie at rivals Billericay Town.

The Urchins picked up their third clean sheet on the spin in the weekend’s goalless draw against Bognor Regis Town at Bridge Avenue, and remain outside the Ryman Premier relegation zone.

That remains their priority this season, and the side he puts out tonight is likely to be similar to the one which beat Redbridge 3-0 last Tuesday in the quarter-final of the Essex Senior Cup.

“A few of the youngsters will get a chance tonight and it will resemble the side that was at Redbridge last week,” said McFarlane.

“One or two of the under-21s are likely to get a chance off the bench as well, just like they did in the Essex Senior Cup.

“And though this competition is the least of our priorities at the moment, I am sure this will still be a typical Hornchurch v Billericay battle.”

McFarlane was pleased, but slightly disappointed with the goalless draw picked up against Bognor at the weekend, feeling they maybe should have won the game after a strong second half showing.

“I am a little bit disappointed,” he added. “It was a fairly even first half with both teams having chances, but in the second half I thought we were the better team.

“We should have done better with a couple of our chances, but both sides hit the post.

“It’s a solid point though against a good Bognor side. Another pleasing thing was the clean sheet and we have got a few of those recently and that is a massive help.”
