McFarlane: We can push on

Hornchurch host Margate at Bridge Avenue tonight with boss Jimmy McFarlane excited after getting back to winning ways at Horsham on Saturday.

Martin Tuohy, Lewis Smith and Leon McKenzie netted in the 3-0 win and Urchins will hope to close the game on leaders Billericay this evening.

McFarlane said: “We look forward to every game because these are exciting times for everyone involved. We’re at that time of the season when results are the most important.

“We’ve had our little dip and I’m confident now we can push on.

“If we win tonight we go within 4 points of the leaders and it keeps the pressure on them. I keep saying there will be more twists and turns yet.”

With three defeats in the last five games McFarlane is now looking forward to keeping up the pressure on Billericay, who they meet at home on Bank Holiday Monday (April 9).

The resilient boss was keen to point out that despite everything there is a lot of positivity around to take into the remaining fixtures.

He added: “We have to make sure that we are ready when they come along and we still have to play them.

“We’ve got a lot to be proud and confident about. We’re second in the league, with the best defensive record, and a great honest bunch of lads who are ready.”

A tricky game awaits tonight unless Urchins treat it with the upmost respect.

Margate have a very experienced manager and are capable of getting results anywhere, as McFarlane quickly pointed out.

He added: “They bring the most experienced manager in the league Chris Kinnear.

“They’re a funny side as they get surprise results every week. They win the games where they might struggle and lose the ones they should win.

“It’s always hard to play against teams like this compared to the likes of Billericay where you know what you will get every week.”

A good run now would really set up a mouth watering game against Billericay , but McFarlane quickly played down that game and insisted it was all about focusing on tonight.

“We have to just concentrate on ourselves tonight and go about our business and I’m sure we’ll be fine,” he said.
