Reckon you might have undiscovered green fingers? Try your hand at keeping an allotment.

That’s the message from the Hornchurch and District Allotment Society this summer.

Plots often become available in autumn when agreements come up for renewal, so there could well be a space for you if you aren’t afraid of the open air and a bit of hard work.

The society is preparing for its annual display at the Havering Show later this month, when it will be selling surplus produce in aid of St Francis Hospice.

In the last four years, the society has raised a bumper £8,000 for the Havering-atte-Bower charity’s work.

For more information, contact James Rose at Havering’s parks department on 01708 433868 or society treasurer Robert Rand on 01708 559166.
