Who do you think should be on the Essex Walk of Fame?
A Hollywood style walk of fame is coming to Romford and will recognise celebrities and well-known stars from around Essex.
Havering Council, Romford Film Festival, film-maker, producer and writer Tony Klinger and David Courtney from the UK Walk Of Fame are working on bringing a star-studded street to Romford.
Tony is the son of producer Michael Klinger, with whom he worked on the film Get Carter starring Michael Caine in 1971, and was an assistant director on The Avengers in the 1960s.
He was awarded The Lifetime Achievement Award at the Romford Film Festival this year, for his film about his late father, “The Man Who Got Carter” which is set to premiere in November this year.
More details about the walk of fame are set to be discussed this week, and where it will be has not yet been decided, but Joseph Sultana, Romford Film Festival director is hoping that it will be in the town centre.
Speaking to the Recorder, Joseph said: “It’s going to be massive.
“It’s going to be a great way to showcase the achievements of those who have come from the borough, and will hopefully attract even more visitors to Romford.
“A lot of famous people come from Essex and we don’t always recognise the great talent that we have here.
“I don’t see why it can’t just be for famous people though, it would be great to be able to recognise local people who have done great things too.”
Councillor Damian White, Leader of Havering Council, said: “It’s with great excitement that we welcome plans for an Essex Walk of Fame to Romford.
“The town is well known for its talent and diversity and being chosen to host the walk is a major boost which would attract even more visitors to the borough - yet another example of keeping Havering special.
“We will be working closely with the organisers to look at the next steps to ensure this is a brilliant and memorable experience for everyone.”
