Shock FA Cup exits for rivals

There was FA Cup heartbreak for Hornchurch and Romford as they bowed out of the competition at the first qualifying round stage on Saturday.

Urchins welcomed Ryman Premier Division rivals Concord to Bridge Avenue on the back of a three-game winning streak, only to fall to a 3-1 defeat.

Concord, without a league win in seven games so far this season, took the lead through Kyle Asante, before Tambeson Eyong levelled.

Former Urchin Harry Elmes put the visitors back in front and Matt Marshall made sure of victory and the 3,000 prize money when heading home Concord’s third.

Romford, meanwhile, saw their six-game unbeaten run brought to an end by Essex Senior League leaders Southend Manor.

Boro got off to a fine start as Paul Kavanagh’s fourth-minute corner was converted by captain Paul Clayton.

But Manor responded through Tom Hollingsworth and Wilf Msiska to lead 2-1 at half-time.

And Msiska and Gary Paterson netted nine minutes apart around the midway mark of the second half to leave shellshocked Boro 4-1 down.

Substitute Adrian Clifton pulled a goal back with 13 minutes remaining, but it was little consolation for Paul Martin’s men as they crashed out.
