A weight-loss consultant has been rewarded for her 20 years of service after helping hundreds of people transform their lives.
Maureen Hawken, who runs Slimming World at Hornchurch Conservative Club in North Street, Romford, celebrated by throwing a party for her morning class.

During her time there, she has helped two people lose 10 stone plus in a year.
“I love it,” said Maureen, 68, of Duxford Close, Hornchurch. “It was a fantastic party, really lovely.”
Maureen is regarded as one of the top Slimming World consultants in the country and in 2004 was rewarded with a trip to the Bahamas, along with 19 other top workers.
More than 50 people turned up to celebrate her achievement, including old members of the class.
Having been a member herself, Maureen took over as consultant in 1994 after being asked by her predecessor. The trick for her is to make the classes as fun as possible.
“I was the joker, the old consultant asked me to take over. I was always mucking about, I didn’t know if I could do it. I just try to get them to be more motivated.”
Fun-loving Maureen couldn’t even tempt her class with a celebratory drink. “I did take wine in but as it was a morning class nobody touched itm” she joked.
