A “rainbow of colour” filled Romford town centre as hundreds of women got in the festival spirit and joined the sixth annual St Francis Hospice Star Walk.
Saturday’s Rio Carnival themed event is believed to have raised more than £60,000 to support patient care.
X Factor star Rylan Clark sung before cutting the ribbon and sending the 500 women undertaking the 10km challenge on their way.
He told them: “We are all here for a good cause – Saint Francis Hospice. What the charity does is fantastic. It’s going to be a great night.”
Among those setting out was Liana Fasulo, from Romford, who was joined by friend Jade Foster. Liana said: “The walk was brilliant, like a party. My Nan received care from the hospice so I wanted to give something back to the charity.”
Entertainment on the night included displays of ballroom dancing and stilt walking as well as music from the Pantasy Steel Band.
Firefighters from Harold Hill were also on hand to help out.

Hospice events manager, Lauren Josman, said: “It was a fun-filled night and it was great to see so many women out supporting Saint Francis Hospice.
“There were some great costumes and a rainbow of colour filled Romford.
“Many people walked because the hospice has cared for a friend or loved one and the money they have raised means that other people and families will be able to benefit from our specialist medical care and advice when they need it.”
Lauren thanked all those who made the event a success.
