A PROTEST against a plan to close the A&E department at King George Hospital and divert services to Romford will take place next month.

Hospital chiefs and doctors have backed the controversial move in a vote which brings the plan a step closer.

If it goes ahead it will see both A&E and maternity services from the King George would be split between the Queen’s Hospital and Whipps Cross in Leytonstone.

Opposition has been mounting and objectors have said they plan to show their disdain for the plan with protest on January 29.

One plea came from London Ambulance Service paramedic Jacqui Duly, who said that the closure was happening by stealth and the Queen’s was already buckling under the weight of demand.

Romford MP Andrew Rosindell has echoed her sentiments and claimed the change would “be detrimental to the people in Havering because it just mean the Queen’s Hospital will be chock-a-block.”

Objectors are urged to attend the protest between 11am-noon at Little Heath Green (near hospital) with a view to moving to Ilford Town Centre at 2pm.
