More than 1,400 people in Havering were taken to hospital with an obesity related health issue in a record breaking year for admissions.
Last year there were 440,288 admissions at England’s hospitals for obesity issues, compared to the 40,741 recorded in 2004/5.
The figures from the Health and Social Care Information Centre show 73 per cent of 1,451 obesity admissions were for female patients.
The area had 590 hospital admissions per 100,000 people for obesity related problems - much lower than the national average of 811.
Meanwhile, 26 gastric bands were surgically fitted in the borough during the year – working out as 11 per 100,000 people.
