Health sub-committee meeting: Havering CCG submits St George’s plans to NHS

Proposals to transform a former hospital into a multi-million pound health centre are to go before health officials.
The Havering Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is submitting a report to NHS England next week about its plans for the old St George’s Hospital site, in Suttons Lane, Hornchurch.
The building has been empty since it closed in October 2012, but the group hopes to run GP, walk-in and community care services from it.
Alan Steward, chief operating officer at Havering CCG, spoke of the proposals at a health overview and scrutiny sub-committee meeting held at Havering Town Hall, in Main Road, Romford, on Thursday night.
He said: “We don’t want it to be an administrative base, we want it to deliver clinical services to the community.
“Approval for the next stage will mean we can start detailed planning for the building – what is going to be and how we can make flexible use of the space there.”
