The three Tube station in Havering are open this morning despite it saying on the Transport for London website that they are closed.

Upminster Bridge, Hornchurch and Elm Park stations are all open to passengers but were expected to be shut today and yesterday. There are severe delays from Romford station due to overrunning engineering works at Maryland station.

Jo Smith on twitter said “Overrunning engineering works at Maryland means more misery for metro commuters.”

And Brad Downes said: “Got to Romford at 07:28, 3 cancelled trains later and I finally got on at about 07:48... Now currently at Chadwell Heath.”

Commuters are bracing themselves for another difficult journey to work as the second day of the Tube strike hits London.

The District Line twitter feed said that there was only a service from Earl’s Court to Wimbledon or Ealing Broadway.

But Danbm on twitter said he started his journey on the District Line at Upminster Bridge and got to Barking without any problems.

Upminster and Romford train stations are both open and are expected to be busier than usual.

The RMT and TSSA unions walked out at 9.30pm on Tuesday reducing the network to a skeleton service until yesterday (Thurs) night.

Talks broke down with Transport for London (TfL) over controversial plans to axe hundreds of ticket office staff.

Under the plans, every office in Havering would be closed as part of TfL’s plans to save £40 million a year.

Mayor of London Boris Johnson accused strikers of “holding a gun to [Londoners’] heads”.

But the unions said it was needed to try and save ticket offices and protect 750 jobs, although TfL said it would avoid compulsory redundancies.

RMT general secretary Bob Crow called the plans “a kick in the teeth” for long-serving staff.
